People often post pictures of their massive, overwhelming, color-coordinated essential oil collection. I’m less concerned with how many oils a person has collected and more interested in how many oils they actually use (and how they’re using them). Here are the bottles of essential oils our family has gone through in the past few months and what we’ve used them for!
Purify is an oil we’ve gone through a lot lately. My husband was on a kick where he would put a few drops on a cotton swab and put the swabs in his shoes every night, then that evolved into a spray, and then we switched to a different blend of citrus smells for his shoes. Not only that, but we sometimes put a drop or two of purify in the toilet after using it. I’ll be honest, though… the strong cilantro scent isn’t my favorite, though it does a great job cleansing the air.
Lemon is my FAVORITE essential oil! We use it on the daily. Check out my previous blog post about 10 every day uses for lemon oil. We use lemon on our face (with witch hazel) every night, and to help get rid of sticky residue on treasures we find at thrift stores.
Each season we seem to latch onto a diffuser blend that is the smell of the season. This summer, my husband discovered a blend of lime, peppermint, and wild orange and made sure it was diffusing in our apartment all day every day. Lime is also a great pick me up in water!
There were a few weeks when we both had the sniffles and passed some congestion back and forth. Breathe was so great for us – it clears airways and opens up all the congested areas.
I have this hair blend I keep in a jar and put on my scalp/roots whenever I have time before a shower to let it sit. It has rosemary, lemongrass, lavender, and cedar wood. That plus cedarwood being a part of my night time blend (which I made into a spray and keep in a rollerball) depleted my cedarwood! Luckily I had another bottle ready and waiting.
- Ylang Ylang
When I first started using essential oils, I kept hearing about Ylang Ylang and was so excited to finally invest in it. I use Ylang Ylang every night in my diffuser with dōterra’s restful blend, Serenity. I love how calming Ylang Ylang is.
dōTerra’s restful blend! As I said, I pair this with Ylang Ylang every night. Serenity is also a part of my night time spray and rollerball. Serenity is everything you’d imagine a restful blend of oils would be – lavender, relaxing, soft. Every night I roll my nighttime blend on the inside of my wrists, on my spine, neck, and bottom of my feet. It smells like crawling into bed.
Lavender oil is great for all things soothing, and in the past few months, I’ve used it on burns (I burn myself a lot, cooking is hard) and in my hair blend. I used up two bottles that had very little left.
This series will become a regular thing on my blog so you can see not just pretty collections of oils but also collections of USED bottles of essential oils! If you blog and use essential oils, I’d love to see you share what your family has gone through recently and share how you’re using them!
